Mané
Mané is an old West African rhythm played by the Susu people who live along the coast of Guinea. (The Notation page explains the musical notation used below.)
Mané is played in 12/8 time, which means the measure is 12 eighth notes long. This can be thought of as four groups of three eighth notes.
The sound files are in MP3 format, and include a bell on every third eighth note, starting at the beginning of the measure. This bell is not part of the melody, but is included for reference.
Break
The first note shown below is not part of the break, but is included because this is how we practice the break in class.
